The Court of Appeal in Sri Lanka has stopped the election in the national cricket board, SLC, scheduled for tomorrow. A three-member Appeals Court bench issued the order holding up the election until June 14 in response to a petition filed by Nishantha Ranatunga against the incumbent Thilanga Sumathipala. Ranatunga had claimed Sumathipala was not suitable to hold the SLC president’s position. Ranatunga, the brother of the former World Cup winning captain Arjuna, was vying for the presidency. He is a former vice-president and secretary in the board. He was to be Sumathipala’s main rival in the election that was scheduled to take place tomorrow.

The SLC administration of which Nishantha Ranatunga was the secretary was dismissed by the current government in 2015. An interim committee appointed led the administration to the election which saw Sumathipala being elected in 2016.
