Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) invited sponsors to bid for the seven teams for the inaugural season of Sri Lanka Premier League (SLPL) on Friday. SLC have invited private individuals or corporate bodies to buy the teams, which is slotted to begin in August.
Individuals or corporate bodies will be allowed to bid for maximum three teams, from which they will win only one.
SLPL was initially scheduled to begin in 2011 but was postponed following Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) not allowing Indian cricketers to participate.
“We sent invitations to all the full member countries asking them to release their players for the SLPL. Several have responded favourably but not India so far,” Nishantha Ranatunga, secretary of Sri Lanka Cricket was quoted as saying by The Times of India.
“Even if Indian players fail to turn up this time we will go ahead with the event,” he concluded.
