Pacers Matheesha Pathirana and Dilshan Madushanka received serious injuries that will prevent them from playing in the three-match ODI series against India, dealing a severe setback to Sri Lanka.

This Friday, the inaugural one-day match will take place at the RPSC Stadium.

“Madushanka suffered a Grade 2 hamstring injury on his left leg during the team’s fielding practice” the Sri Lanka Cricket announced in a statement on Thursday.

“Pathirana has suffered a mild sprain on his right shoulder while diving to take a catch during the Third T20 match vs. India,” the statement added.

In Tuesday’s third T20 international match at Pallekele, Pathirana did not bowl.

Mohammed Shiraz and Eshan Malinga have been called up by the hosts to take the place of the injured players.

Jeffrey Vandersay, Pramod Madushan, and Kusal Janith have been added to the team as standbys in the interim.
