Mahela Jayawardene was dismissed shortly after bringing up his 19th One-Day International (ODI) century — his third in World Cups — in 115 deliveries during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 Pool A fixture between Sri Lanka and Afghanistan at the University Oval in Dunedin on Sunday. Jayawardene, who became the fourth-oldest batsman to score a World Cup century, departed for a score of 100 from 120 balls, getting caught by Nawroz Mangal off the bowling of Hamid Hassan, who collected his third wicket of the innings, as Sri Lanka reached a score of 183 for six at the end of 42 overs, needing another 50 to win from 48 balls. Afghanistan were earlier bowled out for a score of 232 in 49.4 overs after being put to bat by Sri Lanka at the start of the match. Asghar Stanikzai and Samiullah Shenwari top-scored for the Afghans with scores of 54 and 38 respectively, while Lasith Malinga and Sri Lanka skipper Angelo Mathews were the pick in the Sri Lankan bowling department with figures of three for 41. Afghanistan eventually lost their way during the latter stages of the innings, with the last four wickets falling for a mere 11 runs. The Afghans could not make much use of the batting powerplay, in which they could score only 10 runs from five overs, losing two wickets in the process. Both Sri Lanka and Afghanistan opted to make one change each at the start of the game.
