  • 6:33 PM IST

Live: Sri Lanka 288 in 48.5 over; Seekkuge Prasanna 2 (1): THAT’S IT!!!! Sri Lanka had been shot out for 288, courtesy of a last moment hat-trick from James Faulkner, as he claims three for 45, while it’s an above par total from Sri Lanka, and Australians would be having a tough time chasing it down.

  • 5:48 PM IST

Live: Sri Lanka 252/5 in 45 over; Angelo Mathews 51 (56), Kusal Perera 51 (49): No harm done, as both the batsmen bring up their respective half-centuries, while they steer towards a good total. How much exactly is on the cards?

Mednis was the latest man out as skipper, Angelo Mathews and Dhananjaya de Silva start the repair work again. Mendis and Chandimal have gone again after giving a solid platform for their side. Mathews needs to hold on the innings and bat as long as possible else the team will perish inside 50-60 odd runs.

Live: Sri Lanka 77/2 in 14 over; Kusal Mendis 38 (32), Dinesh Chandimal 18 (33): No harm done, as both the batsmen continue to play a good innings, while Chandimal just took apart Head for 20 runs in the 10th over.

  • 3:20 PM IST

Live: Sri Lanka 22/2, in 6 over; Kusal Mendis 28 (22), Dinesh Chandimal 14 (25): Sri Lanka are now steady and gaining momentum with every over. How well can form play a part in your confidence is been displayed by Mendis and Chandimal. Both have gone about their business excellently. They have gone for their shots at regular intervals and played Starc and Faulkner decently. 50 runs partnership is already up for the third wicket. They have picked up the part timers and rotated the strike against the main bowlers so far. Australia will feel they have a job in hand til the time any of these two are at the crease.

  • 3:00 PM IST

Live: Sri Lanka 22/2, in 6 over; Kusal Mendis 4 (8), Dinesh Chandimal 5 (9): Sri Lanka have lost both their openers cheaply. Australia have started with Nathon Lyon and Mitchell Starc and both of them have got one wicket apiece. Sri Lanka have their best batsmen and in-form players, Mendis and Chandimal, at the crease. They again need to stitch an important partnership here for the side. Chandimal is in the form of his life with 5 fifties in his last 5 innings. If he scores another fifty, he will be the first Sri Lankan to do so. He will become the seventh player to join this club headed by Javed Miandad.

  • 2:38 PM IST

Live: Sri Lanka 1/0, in 1 over; Tillakaratne Dilshan 0 (4), Danushka Gunathilaka 0 (2): What a beauty from Mitchell Starc to begin the proceedings for Australia. The track is not having any grass it seems. This can be a bit easy for batting but Sri Lanka will have a task in hand playing against a confident and disciplined bowling attack of Australia. Tillakaratne Dilshan has to set the tone for his side today. He needs to play carefully without shifting from his normal game.

TOSS UPDATE: SRI LANKA WILL BAT FIRST AFTER WINNING THE TOSS.

Hello and welcome to CricketCountry’s live cricket blog and updates post of the second One-Day International (ODI) between Sri Lanka and Australia, on Wednesday. Australia have a 1-0 lead in the ODI series after winning the first ODI by 3 wickets with 19 balls to spare. Australia suffered a 3-0 whitewash in Test series as they struggled to cope against the spinners. On the other hand Sri Lanka ended their bad run in international circuit by registering a thumping series win. In the first ODI hosts suffered a batting collapse which hampered with the momentum. They could only post 228 on the board which was never enough against Australian batting line up. FULL CRICKET SCORECARD: Sri Lanka vs Australia 2016, 2nd ODI at Colombo

Mitchell Starc has been phenomenal on this tour taking wickets, despite spin-friendly pitches. Starc took 3 wickets in the first ODI spoiling the momentum Kusal Mendis and Dinesh Chandimal provided and pushing the Sri Lankan batsmen on back foot. James Faulkner too had an impressive start to his ODI campaign by taking four wickets in the series opener. In batting department Aaron Finch looked in good form with Steven Smith backing him up in the top order.

Sri Lankan spinners have had a major impact on the series. Rangana Herath’s absence from the side is clearly visible as Steven Smith breathes a sigh of relief. Their fast bowlers have disappointed so far. Youngster Amila Aponso has looked promising so far, taking a wicket and bowling an economical spell. Kusal Mendis continues his good form in ODIs too along with Dinesh Chandimal. Though, they need to be cautious against Starc. Skipper Mathews too urged his team recently to be extra cautious against Starc
