Sri Lanka had a poor start as they lose experienced Mahela Jayawardene early. Jayawardene, who came out to open the innings got a good ball from Chris Woakes in the fourth over of the match. Jayawardene got completely squared up as he aimed to play to the leg side, the leading edge looping to mid-off. The ball appeared to stop in the surface, as well as straighten.
