Three days after his new-ball partner Trent Boult picked up his 250th wicket in Test cricket, Tim Southee emulated him to become the fourth New Zealand bowler to the landmark.
Southee’s 250th Test wicket was Sri Lanka captain Dimuth Karunaratne, who he trapped lbw from around the stumps on day five of the second Test at Colombo’s P Sara Oval.

Southee entered the Colombo Test with 245 wickets and has so far claimed five as New Zealand close in on a series-levelling win.
Southee, 30, reached the milestone in his 67th Test match. Before him, only Boult, Sir Richard Hadlee and Daniel Vettori got to 250 wickets.

All-time great Hadlee took his 250th wicket in his 53rd Test, back in 1985. Boult did it in his 64th Test last week.
Southee made his Test debut against England in 2008, not long after he featured in the Under-19 World Cup.
