Kusal Perera recreated history when he scored the joint second-fastest One-Day International (ODI) half-century during the second ODI between Sri Lanka and Pakistan at Pallekele on Wednesday. Perera joined Sanath Jayasuriya, getting to his fifty off 17 deliveries. The fastest ODI fifty remains AB de Villiers’ which came off 16 balls in his knock of 149 against West Indies at Johannesburg earlier in 2015. Simon O’Donnell comes in after Jayasuriya and Perera with a fifty off 18 balls against Sri Lanka at Sharjah in 1990. Shahid Afridi has also scored an 18-ball 50 twice, once each against Sri Lanka and Netherlands.  Live Blog: Sri Lanka vs Pakistan 2015, 2nd ODI at Pallekele

Perera is the only batsman in the top six to hit more than 10 boundaries in his innings. He also hit just two sixes, which is far less than most of the others. Perera became the second Sri Lankan in the list after Jayasuriya, whose blitz also came against Pakistan. Sri Lanka have also been on the receiving end of an assault, with both Simon O’Donnell and Afridi’s 102 coming against the men from the Emerald Isles. Perera was finally dismissed for 68 off 25 deliveries. Live Cricket Scorecard: Sri Lanka vs Pakistan 2015, 2nd ODI
