The fifth and final One-Day International between Sri Lanka and New Zealand at Hambantota was on Monday washed out due to persistent rains.

Sri Lanka won the five-match ODI series as two matches – including today’s clash – were washed out.

None of the games in this bilateral series have gone unaffected by rain.

Sri Lanka struggled to 123 for eight in 28.3 overs before rain interrupted play against New Zealand at Hambantota on Monday.

Upal Tharanga stuck it out as the hosts lost wickets at regular intervals. Tharanga top-scored for Sri Lanka with 60 runs.

Sri Lanka lost their first four wickets for 44 runs. However, Mahela Jayawardene joined in opener Tharanga and added 47 runs for the fifth wicket.

Tim Southee picked up three wickets to dismantle the Sri Lanka batting.

Earlier, New Zealand won the toss and elected to field.
