Stephen Cook brought up his half-century on Test debut in 97 deliveries during the second session of the opening day of the fourth South Africa vs England Test at Centurion. Cook got to the much-awaited milestone in 97 deliveries, displaying grit and patience against a quality opposition attack that consists of the likes of Stuart Broad and James Anderson. The right-handed opening batsman brought up the milestone with a drive off Chris Woakes in the 35th over of the innings, bringing up the 100-run partnership with Hashim Amla for the second-wicket later that over. Cook, whose family members celebrated his milestone along with the rest of the local supporters, has been among the most prolific run-getters in the Sunfoil Series (premier South African First-Class tournament) for the last seven seasons. The South African batsmen, in the meantime, were making merry early on Day One of the fourth and final Test, with Amla bringing up his 29th Test fifty with a cover drive off his 68th delivery. Amla’s scoring rate has been considerably faster than that of Cook’s having hammered 11 boundaries so far as South Africa reached a score of 148 for one at the end of 35 overs. England’s only success of the morning was Moeen Ali dismissing Dean Elgar for 20, with James Taylor taking yet another brilliant catch at short-leg. South Africa earlier won the toss and made five changes to their team — Stephen Cook, JP Duminy, Quinton de Kock, Dane Piedt and Kyle Abbott coming in place of Stiaan van Zyl, Faf du Plessis, Dane Vilas, Chris Morris and Hardus Viljoen. England, on the other hand, brought Chris Woakes in place of the injured Steven Finn in their only change to their winning combination from the third Test at the Wanderers.
