Steven Finn ruled out of 1st Test vs Pakistan with stress injury
Pakistan and England are scheduled to play three Tests, starting on Wednesday.
English fast bowler Steven Finn has been ruled out of the upcoming first Test against Pakistan with a stress injury to his left foot, the England Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed on Monday in a press conference at Abu Dhabi. Meanwhile, England’s skipper Alastair Cook hopes to get Finn back for the second Test. He said, “Bitter blow for him [Finn], he's had a huge 12 months. Hopefully he'll be right for 2nd Test. We've got to play some amazing cricket to put Pakistan under pressure. But I'm confident and excited.” Pakistan is going to host the English side in UAE for three-match Test series and that will be followed by four One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) later in the month. Finn was impressive in the recently ended warm-up matches against Pakistan A where he had four wickets to his name in the final match, with both the two-day games ending as a draw. Pakistan will start the three-match series as favourites, while the Cook-led side will attempt to avenge the 0-3 loss suffered on their last tour in the UAE. Joe Root said that England have proven that they possess the capability to pull off big upset over the last six months, pointing to their 3-2 Ashes win over Australia, the Mirror reported.
“As a team, to beat Pakistan here it’s going to be a big effort but we’ve proven over the last six months that we’re capable of doing things that maybe looked a bit too much for us,” he added.
