There have been many heated moments in the Border-Gavaskar series 2016-17. But Australia captain Steven Smith surely knows how to end things on the right note, as he sportingly asked India s skipper for the fourth Test, Ajinkya Rahane, if Australia could join the Indian team for a beer. India won the series 2-1 with a comfortable victory in the fourth Test of the series. Rahane led India in the fourth Test at Dharamsala in the absence of India captain Virat Kohli who picked up a shoulder injury while fielding in the third Test. The hosts won the final Test by 8 wickets to reclaim the title. LIVE CRICKET SCORECARD: India vs Australia, 4th Test at Dharamsala

Earlier, Smith had told Ravi Shastri in the post-match conference about the young Australian side giving tough competition to India, It was a fantastic learning curve. For Australians, coming to India is one of the toughest places to tour and I think the way the guys were able to adapt and challenged India in these conditions was fantastic. The guys came here with some really good plans. I am really proud the way the boys performed here in India.”

Australia captain Steve Smith apologised for letting emotion get the better of him. On Monday, footage indicated he called Murali Vijay a “cheat” for wrongly claiming a catch on Monday. “I have been pretty intense throughout this series. I really wanted to do well for the team. At times I have been in my own bubble and have let my emotions slip. I apologise for that,” said Smith.

With this, India registered victory in the seventh consecutive Test series, beating Sri Lanka, South Africa, West Indies, New Zealand, England and Bangladesh before Australia since 2015. India maintain their top spot in the ICC Test team rankings.
