Much to his disappointment, the fourth Test at Melbourne ended in a draw after Smith and Joe Root shook hands in the final session of Day 5. Australian skipper Smith was unbeaten on 102, when play was called off.

Smith sounded dejected in the post-match presentation. He said: "I'm enjoying (batting), it's a shame we had to call it off in the last hour, I could have had another hour out there. It was good fun ... I feel like I'm hitting the ball really well and hopefully I can end the series really well in Sydney."

Australia lost only 2 wickets on the final day of the Boxing Day Test with Smith and Mitchell Marsh staying unbeaten till the end. This was also the second only drawn Test at MCG in last 20-years. Australia have already won the series 3-0, after winning the Gabba, Adelaide and WACA Tests.

The fifth and final Test will be played at the Sydney Cricket Ground in Sydney from January 4, 2018.
