Steven Smith’s captaincy boring: Rodney Hogg

Melbourne: Former Australian fast bowler Rodney Hogg has criticised Steven Smith for his ‘boring’ captaincy against New Zealand in the second Test in Perth. The match ended in stalemate after Smith delayed his fifth day declaration in order to make it impossible for New Zealand to implement a run chase. Expressing disappointment over the match result, Hogg said that Smith wouldn’t come up with a high winning percentage as captain if he was going to come up with such boring declarations, Sydney Morning Herald reported. Hogg said that the game of cricket was not about statistics anymore and insisted that the public wants results and entertainment. He urged the new skipper to give them a little bit more entertainment on the final day. Rodney Hogg: Mitchell Johnson would have broken my Ashes record if he had another Test to play
Australia are leading the three-match series 1-0 and will take on New Zealand in the third Test, which starts at the Adelaide Oval on November 27. One of the meanest fast bowlers of early 80′s, Hogg has a typical pacer’s temperament and doesn’t beat around the bush about what he feels. Earlier, in February Rodney Hogg said that India do not have the bowling unit to retain the cricket World Cup with Umesh Yadav being the lone bright spot in the attack, “I am certainly not impressed with India’s fast bowling attack and I don’t think with this quality, they can retain the World Cup this time,” the 63-year-old Hogg, who bagged 123 Test wickets and 85 ODI sclaps said. He had added,“My favourite team to win World Cup 2015 will be South Africa because they have world’s best fast bowler Dale Steyn and best batsman AB de Villiers in their side.” READ: India’s bowling attack not strong enough to win ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, believes Rodney Hogg
