Stuart MacGill takes a blinder to get rid of Irfan Pathan

A rebound catch is considered to be one of the most difficult catches in cricket. The bowler hardly gets any time to react as he is in his follow through. It demands lightening fast reflexes and rock solid concentration. Australian cricketer Stuart MacGill successfully displayed all these qualities in the Adelaide Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, 2003/04 season.

Batting first, Australia posted a mammoth score of 556 on the board in the first innings. In return, India came back hard and were batting comfortably at 518 for 8. Irfan Pathan was new at the crease and was facing Stuart MacGill when he failed to middle a flighted low full toss delivery. Although he didn’t connect it well, the ball still traveled at a good speed straight towards MacGill, who in no time stretched his right hand and grabbed the leather. There was hardly any reaction time but MacGill judged it to perfection.

The whole ground was stunned by this effort, which was undoubtedly one of the best catches taken by a bowler in his follow through. India were bundled up for a score of 523 and eventually won the Test by four wickets.
