Sunrisers Eastern Cape crushed Paarl Royals in a one-sided SA20 clash, bowling them out for 49, the lowest-ever total in the tournament’s history. The big win helped the Sunrisers claim a 137-run bonus-point victory.

Jordan Hermann dominates in a brilliant 62 innings

Earlier, the contest between the Hermann brothers was dominated by Sunrisers’ Jordan Hermann. The left-handed batter played a brilliant knock of 62 not out off 28 balls, hitting 5 fours and 4 sixes, powering his team – the two-time SA20 champions – to 186/4.

Jordan gave the Sunrisers a strong finish, smashing 22 runs in Delano Potgieter’s final over. His innings came at the back of a solid start from Quinton de Kock (42 off 24 balls) and Jonny Bairstow (31 off 33 balls), who put on 66 runs together in 50 balls.

Sunrisers pace attack stuns Royals in Powerplay

The middle order also maintained the momentum. Matthew Breetzke (31 off 28 balls) and Hermann added 73 runs before Jordan’s late fireworks lit up the innings.

The Royals’ chase was over before it even began. The Sunrisers’ pace attack ripped through their batting in the Powerplay. Marco Jansen (1/15), Adam Milne (2/17), and Anrich Nortje (4/13) reduced the home side to 30/4, leaving them in deep trouble.

Anrich Nortje shines on SA20 comeback after two seasons

For Nortje, it was a special outing. The fast bowler made his SA20 comeback after missing the last two seasons due to injury. He bowled with great rhythm and pace, building strong pressure, especially early in the innings.

The Paarl Royals could never recover from the early collapse and now face a tough task to bounce back quickly. They will meet the Sunrisers again at St George’s Park on New Year’s Eve and will hope to come back stronger in that rematch.
