An inconsistent Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) are all set to host the roaring Gujarat Lions (GL) in Match 34 of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2016 at Hyderabad. If given a close look at the points table, it gives a clear picture of the current scenario of these teams. GL are at a clear advantage against SRH despite their two consecutive defeats. As for SRH, they are raring to reach the top, given the kind of commanding performance they have put up so far. While GL are at No.2 in the points table, SRH lie at No.5. However, a win against GL could help SRH stay on course. With the first encounter working in favor of SRH, GL would surely want to avenge the defeat and come out stronger. GL have a balanced team composition and have performed well in all the three departments. With the inclusion of Aaron Finch, the question of which international player is to be excluded remains unresolved. The absence of Dwayne Bravo in the last match against Delhi Daredevils (DD) was felt terribly, especially in the death overs.

The top order has not yet failed to fire, with either of the openers providing impetus in every match. Alongside Dwayne Smith is former New Zealand skipper Brendon McCullum and the belligerent duo has been consistently providing fireworks in the batting Powerplay. Skipper Suresh Raina comes at No.3; but with inclusion of Aaron Finch, it is expected to only get better. Considering the way Raina single-handedly led the innings against SRH earlier, it will be a tough task to decide at what position will Finch bat.

SRH thrives on their skipper David Warner and he undoubtedly has executed his task well. Shikhar Dhawan’s on and off performance could be a concern for SRH, although this opening pair was the front runners for SRH’s previous win against GL. With Kane Williamson at No. 3, it has only strengthened SRH’s top order.

So far, the middle order has complimented the top order for SRH as well as GL. If the top three batsmen fail to live up to expectation, the likes of Eoin Morgan, Deepak Hooda, Ashish Reddy take up the responsibility to finish the task on hand. SRH can find a respite if Yuvraj Singh is back in their squad, as he is likely to play this encounter. Nonetheless, for GL, if Finch moves up the order, then Raina, Dinesh Karthik, Dwayne Bravo and Ishan Kishan will have to fire on all cylinder to make full use of the foundation laid by the top order. Even if the batsmen do their part, a lot depends on the bowlers of the team. SRH pace attack has been at its best with special emphasis on Mustafizur Rahman and Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Bhuvneshwar’s 4 for 29 against GL is one of the finest spells of IPL 9. SRH are yet to face GL’s new-found chinaman Shivil Kaushik along with their yet another ace spinner Ravindra Jadeja. As for the pacers, inclusion of Bravo back along with the duo of Praveen Kumar and Dhawal Kulkarni can make a difference this time against SRH.

This could be anyone’s game but the advantage still belongs to GL as they are leading with maximum wins. GL would want to win this match and make it easier to earn their spot in the Playoffs, while SRH would want to continue to remain a strong contender in the race of Playoffs.
