It is a must-win game for Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Mumbai Indians at Hyderabad BCCI

To seal a berth in playoffs, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) will host table-toppers Mumbai Indians (MI) in match 48 of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017, at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. SRH’s consecutive losses against Delhi Daredevils (DD) and Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) have put them in a spot of bother. MI, on the other hand, have qualified for the penultimate stage, and are handsomely sitting at the top after registering the biggest margin of victory (by runs) against DD. That said, they will leave no stone unturned to remain in the top two to avoid eliminator. Full Cricket Scorecard, Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Mumbai Indians, IPL 2017, Match 48

Team combinations

SRH have received their first jolt. Ashish Nehra will miss the clash due to hamstring injury, as confirmed by mentor VVS Laxman on Sunday. They are likely to replace Nehra with Mohammed Siraj who has picked up 6 wickets from 4 games. However, SRH may not have been at their best against DD, but they have been swashbuckling in their own den. In fact, their loss against RPS was their first setback in front of their home crowd. David Warner and co. would expect to shrug off the letdowns and start afresh.

The top order comprising Warner, Shikhar Dhawan, Yuvraj Singh and Kane Williamson have been scoring bulk of the runs. It is their middle-order that has been a concern throughout this tournament, Moises Henriques, after scoring consecutive fifties at the start, has managed 13, 9, 12*, 55*, 7, 0, 25*, and 4 after that. Meanwhile, Naman Ojha has scored only 63 runs from 11 matches.

Bowling has, however, been the strength of SRH. Bhuvneshwar Kumar still owns the Purple Cap. Rashid Khan, with his leg-breaks, has been in a stellar form, while Siddharth Kaul has been exceptional in the death overs.

SRH s Likely XI: David Warner (c), Shikhar Dhawan, Kane Williamson, Yuvraj Singh, Moises Henriques, Naman Ojha (wk), Bipul Sharma, Rashid Khan, Mohammed Siraj, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Siddarth Kaul

MI have been a dominant force throughout the season, losing only 2 of 11 matches. They have used just 16 players in their side, keeping the key players intact in the playing XI. With Jos Buttler to attend national duties in a few days and Krunal still unfit, MI may stick to the same XI they had featured against DD.

Be it top or middle order, they have performed their best even at crucial junctures. However, Rohit Sharma has not been at his sublime best. His average reads 22.87 this season his personal worst in all editions.

MI have tried different bowling combinations when one of their comrades sustained an injury. Despite that, their performance did not fade away.

Jasprit Bumrah has been, as always, lethal with his yorkers. All the same, Lasith Malinga, the highest wicket-taker in IPL, has been uncharacteristic. He has scalped only 8 wickets at 30.5.

Mitchell McClenaghan has conceded runs at 9.07, but has picked up wickets at regular intervals. He is at the fifth spot in the wicket-taker’s list. In the spin department, MI s highest bid Karn Sharma has proven his mettle in the 3 matches he has played, while Harbhajan Singh has been immaculate keeping a lid on the runs.

MI s Likely XI: Parthiv Patel (wk), Jos Buttler/Lendl Simmons, Nitish Rana, Rohit Sharma (c), Kieron Pollard, Hardik Pandya, Karn Sharma, Harbhajan Singh, Mitchell McClenaghan, Lasith Malinga, Jasprit Bumrah

Head-to-head: The ratio reads 5:4 in MI’s favour. However, the record in Hyderabad still remains evenly poised at 2-2.

Predictions: With both teams possessing top-drawer players in every department, this game is likely to go down the wire. Amongst the batsmen, the focus would be on SRH s Warner and Williamson for SRH, and Pollard and Parthiv Patel for MI. With the Purple Cap at stake, Bhuvneshwar and McClenaghan would be in the spotlight.
