Former India star’s clear warning to CSK over Ravindra Jadeja-Sanju Samson trade talks

Ravindra Jadeja, the star all-rounder of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), appears to be leaving the team. Jadeja, who joined CSK in 2011, rose to become one of the game’s most prominent all-rounders thanks o the platform and exposure he received at the franchise. However, the his long association with the team seems to be nearing an end, with reports suggesting that CSK are planning a potential trade with Rajasthan Royals involving Sanju Samson.

Ahead of the IPL 2026 retention announcement deadline, Ex-CSK legend Suresh Raina has issued a strong warning to the franchise, urging them not to let Jadeja to RR.

In a conversation with JioStar, Raina named the players he believes CSK must retain and those who could be released. He made his opinion crystal clear, emphasizing that Jadeja should stay with the team at all costs.

“Noor Ahmad should be retained. He’s a mystery spinner, so he must be kept. MS Dhoni should definitely be retained; he is playing this year, so he should remain with the team. Ruturaj Gaikwad should continue as captain. Ravindra Jadeja should be retained again. He is a gun player for CSK. He has done really, really well for the team over the years, so ‘Sir Ravindra Jadeja’ has to be there.”

Raina reiterated that CSK should keep their core group intact, naming Noor Ahmad, MS Dhoni, and captain Ruturaj Gaikwad among the must-retain players.

When it comes to players Raina wants CSK to release, the former batter believes Devon Conway, Vijay Shankar, and Deepak Hooda are among the top possibilities to be released into the auction pool.

“Devon Conway should be released. CSK need a local opener, which they will look for in the mini-auction. Vijay Shankar has already received plenty of chances. So I think CSK should release him as well. Deepak Hooda should be released too. There are a lot of players available in the mini-auction who can provide the same combination for the team. These players got their chances last year, and we saw how they played. So, probably CSK will have to look for someone new.”
