After providing assurance of staying in playoffs for Gujarat Lions (GL), skipper Suresh Raina is set to break his unique IPL record missing his first game since 2008 due to very special reason. Raina is expected to be a father soon and he mentioned on Sunday of flying to Hollad to visit his wife, Priyanka Chaudhary. GL were successful in defeating Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Sunday at Eden Gardens by 5-wickets that has taken them to the top of points table in this edition of IPL. GL will be playing their next match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on May 14 at Bengaluru. Now that Raina will be unavailable for the match against RCB, chances of Aaron Finch or Brendon McCullum to lead the side are on the cards. Raina holds the record for playing all the IPL matches so far and this would be the first time he will miss a game. He is also the leading run-getter in IPL with total runs of 3,985 runs from 143 matches that he has played. Raina has featured for every match right since his selection in Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Now with the suspension of the old franchise, he has been named the skipper in this edition of new franchise in— GL.

Raina has been successful with his stint as a captain as he’s lead his side to 7 wins out of 11 matches played so far. GL are just a game or two away to secure their place in the Playoffs.
