The New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson has failed to make too much of an impact in the match against Pakistan in the 23rd match of the T20 World Cup 2016 at Mohali. He scored 17 runs from 21 balls in an innings that lacked his characteristic timing and class. However, he was focussing on rotating strike to Martin Guptill who has been in spectacular form. Guptill has been scoring freely and New Zealand supporters will not have too much to worry about as of now. Williamson’s wicket was taken by Mohammad Irfan with a slower ball, that Williamson failed to read when playing the drive, which he aired to the man at cover. The catch was pouched by skipper Shahid Afridi. Soon after the captain himself came to roll an arm over and he struck gold by dismissing Colin Munro who went for the reverse sweep which he failed to time properly and was caught at extra cover. New Zealand were sitting at 75/2 in the 9th over at point of that dismissal.

New Zealand will now hope for Guptill to continue the good work while building a solid partnership in company of left-hander Corey Anderson. Pakistan will seek another wicket, to truly arrest the flow of runs for New Zealand. The pitch was green but it has not given that much assistance to the seamers as one would have imagined. In fact the spinners are getting some purchase. There is a little bit of turn to contend with.
