The chief selector of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Ajit Agarkar, has confirmed that the star Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma will no longer captain of the ODI team instead of him, the young sensation Shubman Gill has been named the new captain for the 50-over format.
However, Ajit Agarkar also said that Rohit is not certain to be part of Indiaâs plans for the 2027 ODI World Cup. Former Indian cricketer Saba Karim questioned the decision  saying it doesnât make much sense to include Rohit if he is not part of the teamâs future plans.
Rohit Sharma is currently 38-years-old and close to 40. This is the main reason BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar, along with other selectors and the team management, are unsure if Rohit will maintain the required form and fitness to play in that tournament. Former cricketer Saba Karim believes that selecting a player who is unlikely to be part of the team for the next World Cup doesnât make much sense.
“Team mein aap kyon rakh rahe hain?” (Why are you keeping him in the team?) Karim questioned while speaking on YouTube channel Kadak. “Agar woh captain nahin hain to phir ek baat saaf hai na ki aap unka future dekh nahi rahe ki wo 2027 ke World Cup mein rahenge, to phir aap aise khiladi ko team mein nahin rakhiye jo aapko lagta hain ki 2027 mein aapke hisaab se maujood nahin rahenge,” Karim added.Â
“Unhone team ko build kiya hain, unhone apko Champions Trophy aur T20 jitaya hai (He built the team, won you the Champions Trophy and the T20 World Cup),” Karim further said.
