Priyank Tehlan’s solid 95 helped Haryana avoid a middle-order collapse and end the opening day against Tamil Nadu at 264 for seven in their Elite division Group-B Ranji Trophy match.

Tehlan’s steady batting helped Haryana recover after the hosts captain Lakshmipathy Balaji rocked the visitors with three wickets in 11 deliveries just before lunch.

Opting to bat, Haryana openers Nitin Saini 43 (97b, 3×4) and Rahul Dewan 22 (57b, 3×4) provided the platform, making 48 runs between them when the latter was dismissed off Sunny Gupta.

When Nitin was looking to consolidate their innings with Abhimanyu Khod (14), Gupta dismissed the latter.

At that stage, Balaji struck thrice to leave the visitors at 89 for four. Haryana were 90 for five in 36.5 overs at lunch.

Thanks to Tehlan’s fighting 95 (147b, 9×4, 1×6) Haryana survived a middle-order collapse. Tehlan was involved in two stands — 81 for the sixth wicket in 23.1 overs with Prateek Pawar (23) and 66 for the seventh wicket in 20.3 overs with captain Amit Mishra, who was unbeaten on 31 (81b, 3 x 4).

At close, Dhruv Singh (batting 12) was at the crease with Mishra. (PTI)
