‘That’s why I’m not in the squad…’: Suryakumar Yadav opens up about his exclusion from Champions Trophy 2025

Suryakumar Yadav has come to accept him not being taken in the Champions Trophy 2025 squad after he could not get selected in India’s 15-member squad for the tournament, set to begin February 19.

When asked about him being excluded from India’s squad, Suryakumar explained that he has accepted this decision by the selectors. He also stated that the reason behind him being excluded was his poor performance in ODIs.

“Why hurt? It’s about accepting it. If you see the squad, it’s really looking good. It hurts that I haven’t done well in ODIs. That’s why I’m not in the Champions Trophy squad. If I had done well, I would have been there,” Suryakumar said in the pre-match press conference ahead of first T20I against England.

The ODI record of Suryakumar has been underwhelming, as he has only 476 runs in 25 matches at a non-impressive average of 23.8 and only two half-centuries. Him struggling in the format was clearly visible in 2023, where he could only score 68 runs in eight ODIs.
