Jonny Bairstow and Dawid Malan would not want to bat on Day Five of the third Ashes Test. England need another 127 runs to clear deficit and then set a target, with 6 wickets in hand. Australia of course are en route a series win but only if the rain allows any action.

90 minutes of play has been lost due to rain. The umpires, however, are happy with the state of the pitch. Earlier, it was reported that water had seeped to the track, exactly where James Vince received a snorter of a delivery from Mitchell Starc on Day Four.

The rain has not disappeared, by the way. It is forecasted that the clouds will loom over throughout day, dampening Australia’s hopes of regaining the Ashes. It would be a dart in the flesh if the match ends in a draw and England win the next two Test. You may not rule out any possibility. This is Ashes after all.

There are further reports that lunch will be taken at noon and the play will begin after the break. Stay tuned. We will keep updating about the weather.
