Tilakratne Dilshan got to his half century in just 55 deliveries, taking Sri Lanka’s score to 114 in pursuit of 249 to level the series. He has been joined by Kumar Sangakkara after the dismissal of Dimuth Karunaratne. Sangakkara is in destructive mood, already scoring 30 off 28 deliveries severely dampening New Zealand’s chances to snatch victory. New Zealand has tasted just the solitary success this far in form of Karunaratne’s wicket. Besides that, it has been Sri Lanka all the way.

Earlier Sri Lanka restricted New Zealand to 248 despite Brendon McCullum’s 117 of 99 balls. Rangana Herath was the most effective of the Sri Lankan bowlers conceding just 36 runs and picking two wickets in his 10 overs. The running between the wickets was a major problem for New Zealand as their innings saw four run-outs, considerably impeding their momentum.

Brief scores: New Zealand 248 (Brendon McCullum 117, Ross Taylor 35; Rangana Herath 2 for 36, Sachitra Senanayake 2 for 55) vs Sri Lanka 120/1 (Tilakaratne Dilshan 50, Kumar Sangakkara 38; Nathan McCullum 40 for 1)
