Tim Bresnan on Tuesday, said England ‘may be an even better side without batsman Kevin Pietersen, who was dropped for the third and the final Test against South Africa after failing to reveal the contents of text messages allegedly sent to South African players.

“A talented player is being replaced by another talented player,” said Bresnan.

“If he sent text messages to the opposition, which were derogatory to the team, I think he deserves to be put to one side and criticised for it.

“Nobody’s bigger than the team, England will go on and on after Strauss, Pietersen and everyone. Maybe the ECB have left him out to say ‘you’re not bigger than this team and it’s all about how we are going to win a game’.”

Jonny Bairstow will replace Kevin Pietersen in the England batting line-up, and Bresnan believes his county colleague will prove a worthy replacement.

“If he gets stuck in and gets runs this week then I’m sure he will show what he can do on the world stage and how talented he is,” said Bresnan.

“A new star could be born.

“Jonny is very talented and has a long way to go but, as time goes by, he will develop into one of the world’s best,” Bresnan was quoted saying by bbc.co.uk.

“We met up yesterday, the mood in the camp was exceptional,” said Bresnan.

“It’s just like it always is to be fair, quite relaxed, quite focused, we’ve still got the drive and desire to get that win and that’s the ultimate thing really, that’s what we’re after.”
