Right-arm pacer Tim Bresnan is likely to miss England’s first Test against Pakistan in Dubai this month, after the recurrence of an old elbow injury.

Bresnan, who didn t attend a pre-Christmas training camp in South Africa after undergoing surgery on his right elbow in early December, will also miss England s three-day warm-up game starting this Saturday.

“He is unlikely to play in the first tour match but there’s not a great concern about it at this stage,” an England spokesperson was quoted as saying by the Daily Mail.

Bresnan will get only one three-day match – against a Pakistan Cricket Board XI starting on Wednesday – to prepare for the Test series.

England have won all 10 Test matches Bresnan has played in, wherein he took 16 wickets.

The report added that Bresnan is likely to be replaced by Steve Finn for the opening Test match against Pakistan, which begins on January 17.
