West Indian opener Lendl Simmons smacked six sixes and scored a quickfire 63 off just 49 deliveries after Tino Best’s 3/18 helped West Indies register an 8-wicket victory over Zimbabwe in the first T20 at Antigua.

Chasing a modest total of 131, West Indies were never in trouble as opener Simmons and Johnson Charles started aggresively.  Zimbabwe’s Chris Mpofu trapped Charles leg before but Simmons played a monstrous knock of 62 which included six huge sixes.

In-form Darren Bravo failed to trouble the scorers but Dwayne Bravo and Simmons put on an unbeaten partnership of 85 runs to take the Windies home by 8 wickets.

Earlier, winning the toss and electing to bat first, Brendon Taylor-led Zimbabwe were jolted early as Best got rid of the openers very early in the gameto reduce them to 28 for three.

Sean Ervine and Malcolm Waller steadiedthe ship for the visitors and added 60 runs for the fourth wicket.

Spinner Sunil Narine provided the important breakthrough to send back Waller as Zimbabwe reached 88 for four in the 16th over.

A couple of overs later, Narine struck again to dismiss Ervine and from then on it was a collapse for the visitors as they ended the innings at 130 for eight.

Brief Scores: Zimbabwe 130 for 8 ( Malcolm Waller 49, Sean Ervine 34; Tino Best 3 for 18) lost to West Indies 131 for 2 (Lendl Simmons 63*, Dwayne Bravo 38*; Chris Mpofu 2 for 14) by 8 wickets
