Hello and welcome to CricketCountry’s live updates of Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL)match number no.5 between Chepauk Super Gillies and Karaikudi Kaalai. Here you will get all the live cricket updates of all the latest updates from the match. The match is being played at NPR College Ground, Dindigul. The contest is going to be a cracker one as both the teams have suffered a crushing defeat in their opening matches. Both teams will look to rectify the mistakes that they made in their opening match and get a much needed win to kick-start their campaign in the tournament.

In the earlier match between Dindigul Dragons and Madurai Super Giants, hosts Dragons made a good start to their season as they recorded a 14-run win over Madurai Super Giants via the VJD method in a rain-shortened encounter in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) at the NPRCET grounds here on Saturday.

Chasing 147 for a win, Super Giants stuttered with top-order wickets falling consistently. Captain and opener K. B. Arun Karthik getting out to left-arm spinner M. Sanjay. M. Sanjay struck soon as he removed the other opener G. Vignesh. Super Giants never really took off and eventually ended loosing the match.

So far four matches have been played in this cracking tournament, wherein every match has displayed something which wasn’t expected at all. The first match saw one sided affair from TUTI Patriots captain Dinesh Karthik, while the second saw Baba Aparajit scoring a century which was the first of the tournament. The third was the cracking one which saw the first super over in a match between Lyca Kovai Kings vs Ruby Kanchi Warriors.

In all this, the fourth match saw rain playing the spoil sport as most of the game was spoiled by torrential rains. Subramaniyam Bardrinath who is the captain for Karaikudi Kaalai was selected for Chennai Super Kings squad in IPL but he never played any match for them. Badrinath has scored runs playing for South Zone in Duleep Trophy. The skipper will have to play the vital role here as he will have to anchor his side. He has lot of youngsters in his team and for them to prosper the captain will have to play to his maximum potential.

Whereas on the other side Rajagopal Sathish will have to make sure that they do not repeat their mistakes which they committed in the TNPL opener. In their first ever match of this tournament; Chepauk Super Gillies were bundled out for 119 while chasing 165 set by TUTI Patriots. Chepauk Super Gillies are currently at the bottom of the table and they will have to find a solution to rise up. A second defeat in-line is not what both the teams will want as this will hamper their confidence level which can be dangerous given the context of the tournament.

Thalaivan Sargunam displayed good signs of batting in the first match of TNPL but failed to make a big one out of a good start. He remained the top scorer for the team with 29 runs. This is quite enough to realise how much weak their batting effort was in the first match of TNPL. Same can be said about their bowling department as well as the skipper Sathish was the most economical bowler as he took 2 wickets for 16 runs in four overs. Rest every other bowler was pelted by the TUTI Patriots batsmen.

Subramaniam Badrinath’s side bowed down to an outstanding century from Baba Aparajit. Thanks to brilliant batting effort from Rajhamany Srinivasan, M Vijay Kumar who made 50 and 43 respectively Karaikudi Kaalai managed to post a total of 165 against VB Thiruvallur Veerans. But Veeran’s skipper Aparajit came to his side’s rescue as he scored and unbeaten knock of 118 of 63 balls which included 12 boundaries and 6 sixes around the park. This run chase looked very easy for Veeran’s they went onto win this game quite comfortably.

Bowling of Kaalai’s was hit all over the ground and they leaked ruins from every possible way. S Mohan Prasath was only economical bowler for his team as he conceded just 22 runs in his 4 overs but unfortunately could not get any wicket. Otherwise every bowler conceded run more than 7 runs per over.

Chepauk Super Gillies are at 8th position in this TNPL whereas Karaikudi Kaalai are 6 th. With both teams at the bottom, they will have make amends and get much needed win to rank up in the TNPL. It is quite guaranteed that this match NO. 5 between these two teams will be a cracker one just as other matches in TNPL have been.

All we can hope for is that rain does not play a spoilsport and in today’s match as it did in yesterday’s match and that we get to watch an entertaining contest of fast and pacey cricket!
