Veerans win by 5 wickets | TNPL 2016 Live Updates Karaikudi Kaalai vs VB Thiruvallur Veerans
Hello and welcome to CricketCountry’s live cricket blog and updates post of the second match in Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2016 between Karaikudi Kaalai and VB Thiruvallur Veerans on Thursday evening. The match will be played at the NPR College Ground in Dindigul and is the second match of the TNPL 2016 competition. In the first match of TNPL, Chepauk Super Gillies defeated the Albert Tuti Patriots in Chennai on Wednesday evening. While the Karaikudi Kaalai will be captained by senior cricketer Subramanian Badrinath, the VB Thiruvallur Veerans will be led by Baba Aparajith, who played for India in the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup 2012 in Australia.
TNPL was officially unveiled by Indian cricket team’s limited-overs captain MS Dhoni, and former chief of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Narayanswami Srinivasan on August 18. The function was held in Chennai.
Talking about the Karaikudi Kaalai team in TNPL 2016 tournament, they have the likes of Srikkanth Aniruddha, who has previously played for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). They also have the experienced right-handed batsman Chandrasekar Ganapathy, who has 40 First-Class games under his belt, scoring more than 1,200 runs at an average a little above 40. S Lokeshwar is the only designated specialist wicketkeeper for Karaikudi Kaalai.
The TNPL team Karaikudi Kaalaihas an experienced cricketer leading their team. Badrinath played two Tests, seven ODIs and 1 T20I for India after making his debut in February 2010. For TNPL, Karaikudi Kaalai also have two very experienced players of the Tamil Nadu team in the Ranji Trophy, in Malolan Rangarajan and Rahil Shah. These two players have been in terrific form for the Tamil Nadu state side and they will be expected to perform at the same intensity.
As far as the other team is concerned, the TNPL 2016 tournament provides an excellent opportunity for Baba Aparajith to prove his mettle as a leader of VB Thiruvallur Veerans. R Kavin is the designated specialist wicketkeeper in the VB Thiruvallur Veerans team. The VB Thiruvallur Veerans team has former Indian cricketer VB Chandrasekhar at the helm. However, the team will soon have to find a new captain for itself as Baba Aparajith will leave for the national captain because he will play for India Blue in the ongoing Duleep Trophy 2016-17.
Speaking ahead of the big match, TNPL team Karaikudi Kaalai’s captain S Badrinath said, “It would be a good experience for me as well since this is the first time I am leading a side like this. I think I will carry the experience here, teach the boys and guide the youngsters as well. It is a very exciting team with most of them not been part of even first division matches. You will see how they shape up after the first few games.”
Badrinath thinks his team Karaikudi Kaalai has good bench strength for the TNPL 2016 tournament, and they can make a lot of difference as this being the distinguishing factor. Ahead of the tournament, Badrinath gave a deep insight into his bowling attack. He said, “We have very good fast bowlers in our team. There is Jagannath Srinivas, then there is Silambarasan from Vijay CC, playing for Cuddalore, who has a (Lasith) Malinga-like action. Sanjay Yadav, a left arm spinner who can bat a bit, is another exciting prospect for us.”
