This is match 10 of the league between Lyca Kovai Kings and Madurai Super Giants and here you will get all the live updates of the match. The Lyca Kovai Kings (LKK) are in a comfortable position currently with a victory in the last match that they have played. While they have lost only one of their matches, Madurai Super Giants (MSG) have lost both of their fixtures. LKK faced the Ruby Kanchi Warriors (RKW) in their first game, which their opponents won in the one-over eliminator. The team won their next match against Albert TUTI Patriots and are currently placed at the third position. They will be pretty confident entering the second match coming from a win and against MSG who have failed to put up any impressive performance so far. MSG lost their matches to the two top teams Dindigul Dragons (DDD) and VB Thiruvallur Veerans (VTV) but will definitely try to get their first victory in the match.

LKK have 2 points in hand from a victory in hand while MSG have not managed to gather any points so far.

LKK will depend a lot upon L Suryaprakash and B Anirudh Sita Ram for batting, since Murali Vijay will not be available for the tournament due to his Duleep Trophy 2016-17 duties. For MSG, it will be Ganapathi Vignesh and Shijit Chandran who will have to do it with the bat.

In their last match, MSG put up a good bowling performance. M Raja picked up 3 wickets, not letting their opponent middle-order batsmen settle down and score while DT Chandrasekar took 2 wickets. They restricted VTV at 143 after their 20 overs which is a per score but failed to chase the runs, ending their innings at 137 for 7 after their 20 overs.

LKK excelled with the ball in their last match. MK Shivakumar bowled an exceptional spell of 3 for 10. Other bowlers also contributed to end their oppositions’ innings at 95. LKK lost only a single wicket and got to the runs having played only 12.5 overs.

TNPL has many big names associated with the tournament like MS Dhoni, Ravichandran Ashwin, Suresh Raina, Murali Vijay. Talking about the tournament, Ashwin revealed to Cricbuzz, “We didn’t have cricket from Chennai Super Kings for the last year and we won’t have it for the next year as well. Though TN is a big state, we haven’t tapped into a lot of talents in the districts. This tournament is an excellent opportunity for them to excel.”

“It will be a big opportunity for the youngsters in Tamil Nadu to take up the game. The TNPL will be a good platform for them. The State association has done so much for them. They should now give something back to the game. When they play in the TNPL, they will be encouraging kids in the districts to take to the game. They will be paying back something to cricket,” Dhoni told The Hindu about the league.

“They are very knowledgeable and appreciate good cricket from the visiting team too. I have come back to Chennai after nine months. This is the longest gap for me between visits to Chennai in past several years. Hopefully my next visit to the city will be much quicker,” he said about people of Chennai and his connection to the city.

Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) chairman N Srinivasan said, “This is a big moment for Tamil Nadu cricket. The tournament will take cricket to the distant corners of the State.”

He also spoke about Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and their possibility to make a comeback in the Indian Premier League (IPL). “We will all have to wait for one more year and then the men in yellow will be back. And Dhoni will be wearing the yellow jersey.”

Suresh Raina told Times of India about the league, “It definitely is a fantastic tournament and you would see a few cricketers from TNPL who are going to play in the IPL next year. These tournaments provide a platform for players to showcase their skill set and soak in the pressure of playing in front of a capacity crowd. With the tournament being telecast live, it’s a big plus as youngsters watching will be motivated to take up this sport.”

Selector Ramprakash of Kanchipuram said, “Youngsters have got fancy sums in the IPL and are yet to make a mark for their state teams. I would like the district boys to take a cue from the likes of Shane Watson and Chris Gayle, who used the IPL as a platform to get back into the national side. I want district players to use TNPL as a platform to make it to the Ranji side.”

Unlike IPL, where overseas players took part, TNPL opted for no inclusion of outstation players. Former India bowler Laxman Shivaramakrishnan told to The Hindu, “Not having outstation players will not impact TNPL adversely. This will present an opportunity for local talent in the State, particularly from the districts, to showcase their ability before a massive live television audience. The emerging cricketers will learn to handle pressure. Twenty20 is an extremely compressed format. One good over with the bat or one bad over with the ball could alter the course of the match. Players will have to learn to react to the pressure instinctively and instantaneously.”
