TP Sudhindra’s four-wicket haul spelt disaster for Haryana as they were struggling at 22 for five in reply to Madhya Pradesh’s first innings total of 487 on second day of their Ranji Trophy Elite Division Group B match on Wednesday.
After Naman Ojha (160) and Devendra Bundela (112) helped MP post a solid total, Sudhindra wreaked havoc to push the hosts on the back foot.
With Haryana’s top order back into the pavillion, they now face an uphill task of avoiding the follow-on, for which they require another 315 runs.
At stumps on day two, Sachin Rana batting on four and Harshal Patel yet to open his account were at the crease.
Earlier, resuming at an overnight total of 278 for three, MP lost Udit Birla (36) early after he could only add seven more runs to his previous day’s score.
However, another overnight batsman in Bundela, resuming on 25, went on to hit a century and in the able company of Murtaza Ali (72) put up a good score for the team.
Bundela and Ali stitched 157 runs together for the fifth wicket before the former fell for a well-made 112 off 279 balls studded with 15 fours and a six.
Ali also departed shortly after his partner’s dismissal, having hit a valuable 198-ball 72, including 10 fours.
Thereafter, it was just a matter of time before the tail folded.
For Haryana, Ashish Hooda (4 for 117) was the pick of the bowlers.
Replying to MP’s total, Haryana got off to a disastrous start with their top and middle order returning back into the pavilion for just 21 on the board. Besides, Sudhindra, Rameez Khan chipped in with a wicket each. (PTI)
Brief scores: MP 487 (Naman Ojha 160, Devendra Bundela 112; Ashish Hooda 4 for 11) lead Haryana 22 for 5 (Nitin Saini 13; TP Sudhindra 4 for 11) by 465.
