A fresh dispute has surfaced in the cricketing world following India’s historic victory at the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025. In a jab at Mohsin Naqvi, president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia threatened to take stern action in response to the ongoing Asia Cup trophy scandal.
India won their maiden Women’s World Cup title on Sunday, defeating South Africa by 52 runs in front of home crowd at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
ACC president and PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi has come under fire from BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia for allegedly creating unnecessary controversy during the Asia Cup 2025 trophy presentation ceremony. Saikia reportedly made sharp remarks after Naqvi, who had been in possession of the trophy since September 28, refused to hand it over to India.
Saikia made a light-hearted yet pointed comparison between the incident and the Indian women’s team’s World Cup victory, stating that their trophy presentation was conducted “swiftly and peacefully,” in contrast to the chaos surrounding the Asia Cup fiasco.
â⦠After todayâs victory, our team got the trophy immediately. When our menâs team won the Asia Cup in Dubai, the trophy, till date, has not landed in the BCCI officeâ¦,â BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia said.
Naqvi, who also serves as Pakistan’s Interior Minister, has insisted that a member of Team India and a BCCI representative must physically accept the trophy from him. BCCI Secretary Saikia reiterated that the matter would be discussed at the ICC meeting on November 4 and pledged to take decisive action.
â10 days ago, we have written to the ACC Chairperson, requesting to hand over the trophy to BCCI at the earliest. But till today, we have not received the trophy. We are waiting for another day. If we do not get the trophy by 3 November, a meeting will be held at ICC in Dubai. We will raise our grievance before the apex body of international cricket. I am sure ICC will do justice and help India get the trophy at the earliest,â he added.
Meanwhile, the board announced a reward of Rs 51 crore for the winning Indian women’s team. The players will also receive USD 4.48 million (Rs 39.78 crore) in prize money from the ICC.
â⦠Last month, ICC Chairman Jay Shah increased womenâs prize money by 300%. Earlier, the prize money was $3.88 million, and now it has been increased to $14 million⦠BCCI has also announced a reward prize of Rs 51 crores for the entire team- players, coaches, selectors, and support staff,â Saikia said.
