Hyderabad: Oct 12, 2011

England batsman Jonathan Trott on Wednesday said that the proposed World Test Championship would provide a great boost to the five-day game, despite the International Cricket Council throwing doubt on the tournament happening in 2013.

England’s player of the year said he would love to take part in the “bold initiative” and hopes that space can be found in the international calendar.

The batsman also said the morale of the team is upbeat ahead of the one-day series in India in the wake of reports that comments in Graeme Swann’s biography appear to be critical of team-mate Kevin Pietersen.

England registered back-to-back wins against a lowly Hyderabad in their practice match, but Trott insisted that England approached the game with a competitive mind-set.

“We don’t really see them as warm-up games,” said England’s No 3.

“We try to play them as if they were ODIs – so that come the real thing, we’re not surprised by different eventualities.”

“It was very pleasing to be able to post that big score, then bowl them out for such a small total. But we know it will be a little bit different come the weekend.”
