The social media was abuzz when International Cricket Council (ICC) declared their Test and One-Day International (ODI) team of the year. They have made some surprising selections in the side, which has certainly not pleased the fans. The fact that Virat Kohli has not been included in the ICC Test side has left most of his fans furious, who took to Twitter to express their disappointment. However, very few are aware of the fact that the performance period taken into consideration  was from September 14, 2015 to September 20, 2016. This is also the period when Kohli did not have an astonishing run but there were certainly others, who did a better job than Kohli.
Though Kohliâs exclusion is justified as his purple patch in whites came after the said period yet there are few more names, which raise big questions. The selection of Ravindra Jadeja in the ODI side, who bagged just three wickets in the said period along with Dale Steyn in the Test side despite playing just four Tests are mind-boggling. Adam Voges was chosen ahead of skipper Steven Smith in the Test side. Smith played exceptionally well in the said period and has been named as the 12th man of the team.

Fans and followers have lashed out at ICC for the inclusion of few players. As per the teams, Kohli will be leading the ICC ODI side while Alastair Cook will be marshalling the Test side. Ravichandran Ashwin grabbed the ICC Test cricketer of the year award while Misbah-ul-Haq won the ICC Spirit of Cricket Award. Marais Erasmus was also honoured with the best umpire award.

Cant remember the last time I saw something as daft as the ICC team of the year. The ICCs number one batsman Steve Smith is 12th man.
