Indian wicket-keeper Wriddhiman Saha has been ruled out of the third Test against England at Mohali and veteran Parthiv Patel has been roped in to the side. This inclusion has raised many eyebrows as Patel last played for India in 2008, though he has been in good form in the domestic circuit. Patel was hardly on the radar and the Board has decided to go with the experience of Patel. As per the media reports, Saha strained his left thigh and was advised to be rested for the next game so that the injury does not gets severe. Patel is currently playing for Gujarat in the Ranji Trophy 2016-17 as the skipper of the side and has scored some big runs in the recent times.

Patel had a brilliant run in their previous encounter against Madhya Pradesh where he scored 49 in the first innings and remained unbeaten on 139 in the second. His rich forma and the injury to Saha has paced his way in to the national side. The Board of Control of Cricket in India in its staement said, “BCCI medical team confirms that India wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha developed a strain in his left thigh during the second match played against England at Visakhapatnam. As a precautionary measure, Saha has been advised rest and will not play in the next test match of the series.”

As of now all eyes will be set at Mohali as the third Test commences on Saturday. India have a healthy lead of 1-0 with three more games to go and Patel will certainly have big shoes to fill as Saha has been instrumental behind the stumps.
