A court in Lahore found Pakistan wicketkeeper Umar Akmal guilty for failing to attend a hearing for allegedly getting into a scuffle with a traffic cop and subsequently issued a warrant. On February 1, Akmal was accused of flouting traffic rules, interfering in government work and confronting a traffic official and had ordered Akmal to appear before the bench on March 11, Express News reported.

He was detained by the Gulberg Circle Police station for a few hours, during which even older sibling Kamran was denied entry in the police station. Akmal was released on a personal surety bond of Rs 100, 000 and was granted bail a day after he was arrested.

An FIR was registered against the talented yet erratic batsman under Sections 279 (rash driving), 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions) and 353 (assault to deter public servant).

Akmal is currently in Bangladesh, representing his country for Asia Cup 2014 and played in Pakistan’s opening day defeat to Sri Lanka by 12 runs.
