Junaid Khan got the breakthrough that Pakistan needed desperately and with a hint of movement into Upul Tharanga, castled him. It was a much needed wicket which stemmed the flow of runs but with Mahela Jayawardene’s good friend Kumar Sangakkara at the crease, Sri Lanka are in safe hands.

Mahela Jayawardene and Upul Tharanga were in control of the 99-run chase as Sri Lanka were on course to chase down the target against Pakistan in the final hour of the day’s play. Saeed Ajmal and Junaid Khan were pitching the ball in the right areas and making things difficult for the openers after the early flow of runs in the first three overs. Sri Lanka need to go at atleast five runs an over as only 15 overs are left in the day’s play.

Earlier, Mahela Jayawardene and Upul Tharanga got Sri Lanka off to a flying start chasing a modest target of 99 against Pakistan. With clouds covering the stadium and the visitors looking to slow proceedings, the openers struck a couple of boundaries in the first two overs and the Pakistanis were under pressure straight away. Mahela is looking his classy self  — ticking the ball around through the gaps and looking for the odd boundary.
