Upul Tharanga has been named as Sri Lanka s One-Day International (ODI) series captain for the tri-series between hosts Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka and West Indies. In the absence of skipper Angelo Mathews and also vice-captain Dinesh Chandimal, the decision to appoint Tharanga as the skipper was taken unanimously. Kusal Perera has been named as the vice-captain for the Lankans. Team Sri Lanka is already in Zimbabwe where they are playing a Test series comprising of two matches. Sri Lanka has already won the first of the two Tests by a margin of 225 runs wherein Herath lead his side from the front by taking 6 wickets in the match to help his side register the first win under his captaincy. The second Test is scheduled to be played from 6th of November. With respect to the tri-series between the three nations, Mathews was sidelined from the tour due to multiple injuries to his leg that he sustained during the ODI series against Australia while Chandimal was rested for the same.

With the way the Test series has panned out so far, Sri Lanka are looking all likely to whitewash Zimbabwe by clinching the second match which will be played at the Harare. The tri-series will be starting on November 14th and its final will be played on November 27th.
