USA’s Indianapolis civic leaders support $6 million cricket park

Civic leaders in Indianapolis are supporting plans for a $6 million park that will host cricket matches. This is despite local residents protesting against it.
Many are saying that the money to build the Indianapolis World Sports Park could be spent better. But Allison Melangton, who is the CEO of Indiana Sports Corp., said that it was an opportunity to appeal to a new audience.
The USA Cricket Association has decided to hold its national championships at the venue in 2014, 2015 and 2016, reports the Indianapolis Business Journal.
But city and other association officials do not have an estimate as to how many people might attend the events.
There are five fields being designed and they can host matches of sports like football (soccer in USA), lacrosse, rugby, Australian Rules football, Gaelic football and hurling.
Milt Thompson, who is an attorney and sports marketer, said it would be very risky to build the project before actually knowing whether the market will support it.
