Vaas to lead Sri Lanka XI for T20 match against local Karnataka team

Former Sri Lanka pacer Chaminda Vaas will lead Sri Lanka XI, which has many former international cricketers, to take on the Dakshina Kannada Cricket Association XI at the NMPT ground in Mangalore on November 19.

The clash between Sri Lanka XI and DKCA XI is a benefit match for Vaas, who quit all forms of international cricket after the ICC 2011 World Cup final, the Times of India reported.

The match has been organized by Magnum Intergrafiks Pvt Ltd in association with the DKCA.

The Sri Lanka XI includes ex cricketers such as Upul Chandana, Avishka Gunawardene, Nuwan Zoysa, Farveez Maharoof, Kaushal Lokuarachichi, Hemantha Wickramrathne, Saman Jayantha, Jeevan Kulatunga, Dilhara Lokuhettige, and Muthumudaliga Pushpakumara and Vaas.

The president of DKCA, Srikanth Rai informed that the match is being organized with concurrence of Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA).

Sudhir Ghate, the chairman of Magnum Intergrafiks said the idea behind organising the match is to provide cricket fans a slice of international cricketing action. Also, it aims to make maximum public participation in one single activity in Mangalore.

Vaas said, “The Lankans will give a good game of cricket. Cricket is in my blood and I want to give something back to the game which has sustained me for the last 16 years.”
