Valthaty shines in Punjab win

Paul Valthaty smashed a blistering 120 not out off 63 balls to guide Punjab to a famous win over Chennai by six wickets in Mohali. He clubbed 19 boundaries and two sixes.

 

Chennai fought back with two quick wickets of Sunny Singh and Abhishek Nayar after Valthaty added 39 runs with Shaun Marsh.

 

Adam Gilchrist was dismissed by Albie Morkel for 19. Valthaty, who opened the innings with skipper Gilchrist, played attacking shots all over the park and brought up the fastest half-century of IPL 4.

 

Earlier, Mahendra Singh Dhoni scored a quickfire 43 off 20 balls and Subramaniam Badrinath remained unbeaten on 66 as Chennai piled up 188 for 4 against Punjab.

 

Murali Vijay starred with the bat smashing 74 off 46 balls studded with six boundaries and four sixes and revived Chennai innings after Praveen Kumar dealt early blows adding 134 runs for the third wicket with Subramaniam Badrinath.
