Philander, Hendricks out of tri-series in Zimbabwe

Aug 22, 2014
South African pacers Vernon Philander and Beuran Hendricks have been ruled out of the team’s tri-series campaign involving Australia and Zimbabwe starting August 25. Philander has picked a hamstring injury while Hendricks has suffered a back injury. Kyle Abbott and Mthokozisi Shezi have been retained in the absence of the two pacers.
“Kyle impressed in the three matches he played against Zimbabwe while Mthokozisi, who also did well on his debut today, is a like-for-like replacement for Beuran,” Cricket South Africa (CSA) selection chief, Andrew Hudson was quoted as saying on the official website of CSA.
“It was also pleasing to see Marchant de Lange resume his international career so well after a lengthy injury break and he underlines the tremendous depth we have to our fast bowling resources at the moment,” he added.
Despite the loss of two pacers due to injury, South Africa have been bolstered by the return of Dale Steyn and Morne Morkel who were rested from the series against Zimbabwe.
