Just appointed Indian vice-captain Virat Kohli, who was Man-of-the-Match in India s Asia Cup opener against Sri Lanka, said he is honoured with the amount of responsibility showered on him.

“It s just a great honour for me; at 23 I never expected that. I am really honoured that I ve been given that post and I ll try to take on as much responsibility as I can,” Kohli was quoted in the bcci.tv.

He along with Indian opener Gautam Gambhir provided India with 205 runs partnership for the second wicket. Speaking about playing with Delhi teammate Gambhir, Kohli said, “We sort of have similar games and we understand each other really well. And we run well between the wickets so there is a lot of understanding. We don t really have to tell each other what to do because there is that understanding now.”

On Tuesday, Kohli became the fastest to reach 10th ODI hundred in about 80 innings.

“I ve been hitting the ball well so I ve been trying to make the most of it because you are going to [hit] a bad patch [at some point]. You should make the most of it when you are hitting the ball well and I am doing that now.

I am very happy considering the kind of conditions we came from in Australia to be able to adjust that quickly. It s a satisfying feeling to get a win on the board.”

Kohli has performed in different conditions. In his last One-Day International, he remained 133 not out against Sri Lanka in Australia.

“It s very satisfying when the wicket is slow and you have to adjust to control your rush of blood. Just take the odd single and at the end of the day you ll see that the result is in your favour. It is always very satisfying when you have to rough it out there; it s a great feeling altogether,” Kohli concluded.
