VIDEO: Ajinkya Rahane takes superb catch to dismiss Kumar Sangakkara for final time at Galle

Ajinkya Rahane took a super catch at slip as Kumar Sangakkara was dismissed for the final time at Galle — the ground on which he made his Test debut. India were in complete control against Sri Lanka on Day Three of the first Test. Sangakkara was Ravichandran Ashwin’s second wicket, with the off-spinner having dismissed Dimuth Karunaratne in the first over of the innings earlier on Day Two. Sangakkara and Angelo Mathews were united early on Day Three after nightwatchman Dhammika Prasad fended off a short ball from Varun Aaron to Rahane at gully off the first ball of the morning. Mathews and Sangakkara then added 87 for the fourth wicket, but both men were dismissed within seven balls of each other. Live Cricket Scorecard: India vs Sri Lanka 2015, 1st Test at Galle, Day 3
For as long as Sangakkara and Mathews were in the middle, Sri Lanka had hope. But Ashwin kept things tight before inducing a false shot from Sangakkara outside off. The resultant outside edge was taken well by a diving Rahane at slip. Mishra then had Mathews out giving a sharp catch to KL Rahul at silly point. Dinesh Chandimal and Lahiru Thirimanne survived till lunch, but only just; in the last over of the session Chandimal survived a contentious chance when the ball was caught after it appeared to go off the fielder’s boot only for the third umpire to declare him not out.
