Kohli made sure he was the star attraction on Thursday, hitting his way to a 22nd Test century, and first on English soil, to almost single-handedly get his team to 274, which was just 13 runs short of England’s 287. His excellence was underscored by the fact that he added 92 runs with the last three batsmen, who combined for just eight runs.

At stumps on day two, England were 9/1 with a lead of 22.
