Indian Premier League (IPL) season nine is on and with each season, the T20 extravaganza brings the spotlight back on all those players who though have served their countries at the highest level, but are away from international cricket. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) skipper Gautam Gambhir is one such player, who last represented India in August 2014 and has since been out of the team.

The IPL, however, brings him back at the centre stage as he leads one of the most consistent sides that has won two IPL-titles.  With the season 9 being underway, Gambhir spoke in an exclusive video interview given to KKR’s official YouTube channel and shared what all he has been doing during the break since the last IPL and the current season.

Few people know that in a bid to revive his international career, the two-time World Cup winner Gambhir went all the way to Australia last year to work with former Australian cricketer and now a coach Justin Langer. He shares how he decided to work on his game under Langer’s watchful eyes as his style of play resembles a lot to that of the Australian legend. One of the reasons why he chose Langer was also because he wanted an ‘unbiased’ opinion on his game.

Gambhir was with Langer in Perth for a fortnight where he worked on his technique and ironed out the flaws from his game. It is evident from the video how much Gambhir admires Langer. It can be understood when he says, “Yes, I see a lot of myself in him (Justin Langer). He’s intense like me, loves batting like I do. I like him for his work ethics and the fact that he is very uncomplicated.”

The coaching tips seem to work good now as Gambhir currently holds the Orange Cap. Watch the video here:
