Many a times a fielder is seen making a mess of an easy catch and often drops it, but in rare cases they do make up for the mistake and eventually scalps a wicket. A comedy of errors was witnessed during the fifth match of the First Round Group B encounter of the ICC World T20 2016 between Zimbabwe and Scotland, when Michael Leask made a solid comeback and cupped a stunner at long-off boundary.
Batting first, Zimbabwe were delicately placed at 51 for two inside nine overs, Richard Mutumbami was batting on 19 and was looking to shift his gears. Mark Watt bowled a flighted delivery to which Mutumbami looked to smash it over long-off for a maximum. Leask was marshalling the long âoff boundary as the ball was safely travelling towards him. At first, the ball kissed his palms and was going into the boundary but Leaskâs quick reflexes and brilliant presence of mind helped him get the ball quickly under his reach. He in no time dived towards his right and grabbed the ball with one hand to complete a stunner.
Leask may have made a mess of a simple catch but recovered well to eventually get rid of Mutumbami. Eventually, Zimbabwe were bowled out for 147 and won the game by 11 runs. This is probably one of the best catches taken so far in the tournament and one can expect more as the league progresses.
