VIDEO: Sachin Tendulkar, Chris Gayle chosen as openers in Brendon McCullum’s All-Time XI

Former New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum, who happens to be one of the most aggressive batsmen in the game, has named his All-Time XI. In a video posted by Lord’s Cricket Ground on their official YouTube channel, McCullum picked his best players. The criteria of the selection is based on players should have played with or against them or have influenced by them. Also Read: No Tendulkar, Kohli in Eoin Morgan’s All-Time XI; Dhoni, Kumble find place

Former West Indies captain Viv Richards has been chosen to lead the XI. Richards is the only captain from West Indies under whom, the Caribbean side never lost any bilateral series. The opening pair is interesting and has enough ammunition with Sachin Tendulkar and Chris Gayle at the top. At No. 3, there is former Australian captain Ricky Ponting, a man who ruled this position for long. Ponting is followed by West Indian legends Brian Lara and Richards, at four and five. The side bat deeps with Jacques Kallis and Adam Gilchrist following the top five.

The bowling department consists Mitchell Johnson, who is best remembered for his bowling in Ashes 2013-14 in which he took 37 wickets in five Tests. McCullum has picked only one spinner and that was going to be obvious — Shane Warne. Surprisingly, McCullum had his Kiwi teammates, Tim Southee and Trent Boult in the side too.

Brendon McCullum’s All Time XI: Chris Gayle, Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, Brian Lara, Viv Richards (C), Jacques Kallis, Adam Gilchrist, Mitchell Johnson, Shane Warne, Tim Southee and Trent Boult.
